Martial Arts Success - Brown Belt Promotion of Mind, Body AND Spirit

Shelley J

"I enjoyed having a team to train with.  I didn’t see the benefit of a team until we started our process.  Although we are all on our own individual path to Black Belt it helped me push through tough training moments having my teammates by my side. I loved working out outdoors it will always be the highlight of my exam prep.  I felt so strong and empowered.  Having strangers watch us do our Katas was a proud moment.  It made me realize just how powerful we really are.  It also solidified my dedication to dojo training.  I was proud at that moment to be a student of our Dojo and not an observer.  Doing our Katas in the parking lot was fun too.  I really liked the attention to detail.  The whole experience was amazing and I am so thankful to test.  Thank you!"

"I have become a different person with the help of my training. With the physical I have learned how to defend myself in different ways. I have also become stronger physically and more flexible. Mentally I have gone through a big change, I am now mentally a lot stronger than at the start of training. I have learned how to go beyond my limits and have become more disciplined. Emotional I have learned how to control my emotions and use them in better ways and learned to not let emotions take over me. In all three areas, I have taken them to influence my life.  They have benefited me a lot and I plan to continue using these strengths for the rest in my life."

"Giving up is a decision someone makes.  It is perhaps the easy way out.  But how can you grow and expand in life if you give up every time you are faced with a challenge?  You have to believe in yourself, and also enjoy the journey.  It is not all about the destination, but the journey itself is the learning!  I would advise them that it is OK to fall down but getting back up is the key!  There is a quotation that I really love, but don’t know the author.  “Life is not about avoiding the storm.  It is all about learning how to dance in the rain!”.   I have had many challenges in my life, career, family, etc.  You have to face the challenges with a straight eye and keep moving forward.  There are always people who say you cannot do it, it is not for you, you are too old, etc.  You have to ignore the negative energy and negative people.  You must surround yourself with people who see the best in you, believe in you, give you positive energy, and encouragement.   Almost anything is possible!  But nobody said it will be easy!  For me showing up is half the battle!"
